Gibson v. ESP

Yeah in know, another v. thread. Well, I've always been a fan of Gibson guitars, but I see ESP makes alot of really cool copies and the obvious difference I see is that ESP's are more oriented for Metal and heavier music. I was wondering if in terms of quality, tone, playability, and construction if ESP rivals Gibson?

Re: Gibson v. ESP

The ESP copies are usually 24 frets, which changes the sound of the neck pu, for whatever that's worth. (Pushes the neck pu a little closer to the bridge.)

Re: Gibson v. ESP

I prefer the thinner bodies and necks, larger + 24 frets, and the price of the ESP's.

Not to mention quality... I honestly feel ESP makes some of the best guitars on the market today. I can't say the same thing about Gibson, regardless of price.

Re: Gibson v. ESP

I'm really impressed with what a $1,000 Korean LTD looks, feels, and sounds like these days, but a Gibson is more my speed. I don't care about 24 frets anymore; I want the neck pickup to knock my socks off. Plus, the best guitar I've ever played was a 2006 Les Paul Classic. My body still shudders in ecstasy when I think of it.

Re: Gibson v. ESP

The Ltd eluxe 100 series Koreans are 24 frets, the higher end Japanese ESP's are mostly 22 (Viper and Eclipse in particular).

Re: Gibson v. ESP

best bang-for-buck metal guitar on the market today. we have a section dedicated to them at my shop...we have the Fenders, Gibsons, and PRSi on one side, the ESP's and LTD's across from them, and everything else just kidna...everywhere else :smokin:

Those LTD EC1000's are awesome but the necks are just a little to thin for me. If they would build a guitar of that quality in the more traditional Les Paul layout I'd forsake Gibson in a second.

All I want is a fatter neck, a thicker body, 22 frets, passive humbuckers, and 4 knobs so that i can do the Jimmy Page wiring.

guess that's what Edwards is for.

Re: Gibson v. ESP

The higher end ESP Edwards stuff is of course on par, minus issues like using nitro only on highest end and some in accuracies (Ebony on Customs, please, thank you).

The ESP LTD guitars are great value, but they aren't anything like Les Pauls or SGs. They have thinner bodies, longer necks (24 frets), plasticish poly finish and better fretwork compared to Gibsons.

Re: Gibson v. ESP

I don't care for ESP. I've owned several and sold all of them. I have the same gripes as Empty Pockets, the necks are too skinny all around and the bodies are too skinny on their Gibson styled models. I also do not care for the much sharper angle between the fingerboard and edge of the neck compared to my Gibsons. That being said, I'm saving funds for an Edwards 335 copy. Hopefully that will live up to the hype as it's hard to beat the price.
