Gimme gimme MO'D

Just ordered a Landgraff Mo'D. Handsome looking paintjob.

Not counting the VFE Alpha Dog I had for like, a minute, this will be my first Rat-type pedal. I'm going to be getting a Rockbox Boiling Point to go with it. Everyone says that a Rat and a Tubescreamer together kill it. I figured why not? I'm returning my Dr Scientist The Elements (it has this fizzy quality to the decay I can't stand) and selling my BB Preamp to make room for what I hope to be the ultimate combination.

I'm also surprised I spent $400 on a distortion pedal.

Oh well.

Pics when I get it.

Re: Gimme gimme MO'D

Mine's been on my board for over a year now, matched up to a Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive.

It's a good species of RAT.

I've got a Boiling Point, but didn't ever really bond with it.

Yeah, I saw your clip Geoff, and that was one of the things that convinced me to go for the MO'D. I'm pretty excited to get it. The more I think about it, the less I want to go for the Boiling Point. I'm just going to go for something different. I want a TS that's a bit more tweakable, so I can use it both as a boost without TOO much mid push and as a nice light OD for my strat, to get those nice sparkling edge of breakup tones.

Anything you could recommend for that?

Re: Gimme gimme MO'D

Hmm...is John still doing pedals??

I honestly thought he was out of the game.

As for a tweakable TS the KoT is not the answer...not at all.

The KoT is a great OD pedal but it's really nothing like a TS.

Well, the Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive will do that, the down setting on the toggle switch will give you a great TS sound, the up position is similar but less compressed, and the centre position is a cleaner, more open sounding boost. It will cost the same as the Mo'D unless you find one second hand, but that's the combination I've gone with as a well constructed and great sounding TS/RAT combo. With their respective gains set moderately they will also stack beautifully together.

It seems Blues Angel still have plenty of stock of Landgraff pedals, so I can only guess John is still active. http://stores.bluesangelmusic.com/-strse-Pedals-cln-Landgraff/Categories.bok?ncat=Landgraff

Re: Gimme gimme MO'D

Hey Geoff, if you don't mind, could you compare the Boiling Point and the Dynamic Overdrive? I'm leaning towards getting the BP, but mostly because Progutiarshop carries them and I have a $200 credit over there. I've heard that the BP is a clone of the LDO, so I'm wondering how different they can be.

No, it's certainly not a clone of the LDO. It has the 3 way toggle, offering the different clipping diode modes, and an extra bass function switch, but the two pedals are voiced very differently. The Boiling Point has a more raw vibe to it, whereas the LDO is just like the sweetest TS you've ever heard, but with a few options. I owned an original TS-808 in the early 80's, then a TS-10 and also an Ulbrick 12AXE that Dave Ulbrick custom made for me with original 808 parts (a killer pedal that was very hard to take off my board), but the LDO is what sits on my board now.

Here's a demo of the Boiling Point...
