Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

I had seen a few of those around when I was in India a few years ago. I had to do a double take when I saw the logo on it.

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

no way,

that has got to be the silliest thing i have even seen. I dig that they have a hologram to tell that they are the originals.

too much

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

LOL... Ask me about them I will let you know anything and everything about them BAWHHAA

Dont worry guys they will never leave the Indian shores.. they have been around for ages out here...Back when I was in a teenager and in college, we could barley get any good guitars without shelling out loads of cash. Even a Squire was not easily available in the stores unless you ordered for one or asked some one to get it for you form the USA. So we had to depend on either these or some Chinese or Korean made guitars as our first electrics... I am glad I never bought any of those. I So badly wanted an Electric when I was a teenager.. and all i could see was these GIVSON .. I remember playing my friends Givson G.S. 1000 a lot..( a BC RICH wanna be) very heavy Guitar.. and it hurt my ribs..a lot.. They are gradually fading off the market as we now get Fenders, Ibanez, PRS, ESP in the market through authorized dealers. Hardly any one even gives these a look..

There is this semi solid body that I have been seeing at one particular store since I was in college belive me it is the same guitar.. this one http://www.givson.com/products6.htm The Carlton
Thats the only model I have not tried I think I am going to give it a try LOL

Hey Baritone you were here in India??? :)

I actually saw one on a local used website the other day. Made me LOL.

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

looks like they are all made from toon wood, which if im not mistaken, is the same wood used to make most sitars?

yup but that is entry level sitars not the high end sitars ... Toon wood is actually teak wood.

yeah i knew it was teak. i didnt know it was only the entry level sitars though. what are the real ones made from?

It is teak wood..even on the higher end Sitars along with a bit of Rose wood. The word TOON is normaly used for the lower quality wood used for musical instruments stuff . Just like in Mahogany u have Honduras ext
.
These guitars are made out of toon (teak). they sound OK to crapy..and are generally heavy. There are exceptions however: my Flying V copy (teak/toon wood) is made by a GIVSON's competitor Reynolds India LOL .. but it is Ultra light and resonates very well. Thats the only reason why it is still around .. apart form the fact it has Zero resale value. It is now a Frankenstien V .

Entry level Sitars are Expensive toooo

LOL - "Beware of Imitations"

...how could it get any worse? :banghead:

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

I forgot to mention... you get double cream humbuckers stock on all Humbucker equiped models.... :) I remember seeing a review of one of their models on Harmony Central..

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

Well you can say: "I play a givson" really quick - and people will not be able to hear the "V", but think that you play a gibson.... SO that's a plus - kinda.

I'll make a guitar company called: "Tender". And "Youbanez"

lol but believe me it does not work out here..in India. You say that and the reply will defiantly gonna be " did u say Gibson or GiVson". There was a rumor some time back that Gibson did sue them I really don t know what happened about that

Re: Givson Guitars - beware of imitations!

I just looked through the site more thorougly. I like that GS 1000! I'm sure it's a piece of junk but it's got that 60's retro thing going on (a la Eastwood and that Italian company that I can't think of...)- It's about as ugly as a guitar can get. I'd easily pay 100 bucks for it if it turned up in a pawn shop - it'd be a good thing to throw around on stage.

:biglaugh:
