Well, i am looking into new guitars i havent played a godin yet i am looking at either the freeway classic(H S H) or the LGHB(H H) both guitars look great and i've heard great reviews for both guitars on harmony-central, they are canadian made(quebec), and i went to a clinic about them the other night they sounded great. Now to the problem.... i mostly play metal is either of these guitars suited at all for metal? would they be if i swaped the pup's?

EDIT: i am also looking at a marshall JCM800 amp what do you think of those?

Re: Godin Guitars

So long as you get a black one I don't see why not... ;)

Godin builds an incredible instrument with some really cool features.

Oh, and if you get a model with the piezo bridge....just try it distorted. One of the coolest sounds I've heard.

Re: Godin Guitars

the model i believe i liked the most is the new transparent black freeway classic the finish is really amazing :cool3: , we have 2 of them cause the guy that was doing the clinic is goin around and selling the shops the limited color(trans black) but its still the same price as a normal freeway 599.99 canadian

Re: Godin Guitars

I'm more partial to the LG's myself ...

but they're excellent guitars for the money

And if you can play metal on a Telecaster I don't see any reason why you couldn't on a Godin

Re: Godin Guitars

Godin are really really nice guitars... Even their low-end stuff is still really good. I don't know if I would dare swap the pick-ups in their higher-end stuff, they just sound good... of course it's all preference so do as you like. I'd go with the LG myself...

My first pick of all would be a Montreal but that's not a metal guitar... ;)

Re: Godin Guitars

i have a question about the LGHB the guy at the clinic said that the pup's are set like 2 inches into the body.... is it still possible to swap the pup's(i i needed to)?

EDIT: the LGHB is 699.99 canadian as oppossed to the freeway(599.99)
is the LGHB worth the extra cash( i love the pearl black LG :32: )

I really don't know if this affects the possibility (or lack of) of changing pick-ups... I don't think these guitars would be built without the possibility of switching them out... You could just ask your local store to check...

About the differences between the 2 guitars... Just play them and then you should be able to deceide if you think 100$ more for a LG is worth it.. I just love the feel of them and the tone I get out of these... Just try for yourself...

Re: Godin Guitars

thanks everyone for the suggestions goin in this week to try probably the LG hope i like it lol.

Re: Godin Guitars

Hey man I've got a godin LGP90 and they are KILLER guitars. Mine came with duncans but if you get the humbucker version you'll be able to drop some in. I've looked at them before and they are solid, well built axes just like the p90 version (although not 24 frets) and are engineered to be mod friendly.

Fire away with any other questions.

Re: Godin Guitars

LukeDuke what would you suggest for pickups?(dont want actives) i need a very high gain bridge pickup and a harmonic-ish neck pup

any suggestion?

any amp suggestions? perferably like a 2x12 combo or something

Re: Godin Guitars

From your signature I'd guess you are a Mustaine fan? Dave has used a JB and Jazz in the past but with his new model coming out he is having some custom made in the Duncan custom shop. Depending what kind of output you want and WHICH amp you end up with is what pups I'd reccommend...that said you might need to change out pots in the guitar too my LG came with 250's and I bet the humbucker one does too. For heavy stuff a JCM800 is hard to beat and as far as high output pups I'd reccomend the Dimebucker, JB Distortion and Custom for the bridge. The ceramic magnets give your tone a certain type of agression. In an all mahogany guitar with a rosewood fingerboard you'll also want to stay away from pups with all lows because they can sound muddy. In the neck don't discount the idea of a JB they have great articulation and in a metal setup would foot the bill nicely especially if harmonics are an issue. Neck-wise in lower output a jazz, 59, alnico2 pro, or pearly gates.

Godin guitars are GREAT playing bargain guitars I'd like to get a freeway but the neck isn't to my liking.

Re: Godin Guitars

From the examples I've seen, the LG (SP90's at least) looked better in terms of fit than the Freeway Classic or Exit 22, so you get a bit better product for the extra $$$.
They are fine guitars at great prices in any case.

Re: Godin Guitars

Man ... I can pick up an LG for $500 can round here (or slightly over)

Re: Godin Guitars

heheh i've basically made up my mind, :) in december a pearl black godin LG(humbucker) will be mine lol i cant wait already :yell: o well its gonna be worth it its amazing how many poeple praise these guitars, damnit why do i have to wait so loong!!! :yell:
