Going surfing

Just ordered a set of Antiquity ii Surfers with the custom bridge. Spent weeks agonizing over the decision between these and the Ant Texas hots or whether to get surfer N and M and put a Texas in the bridge. In the end I went with the surfer set.

Did I make the right decision? Still not too late to cancel my order...

Has anyone felt the need to beef up the custom surfer bridge? That was what made the decision so hard.

Is it possible to get a good overdriven sound with these pups? I don't play heavy distorted metal but like to use overdrive.

Re: Going surfing

I had the same fitted to my G&L Legacy, I found them to be great. I had a similar dilemma about whether to go for a Texas Hot bridge. I've also toyed with the idea of having a Twangbanger too. I had one in it before and it sounded fabulous.

Well that's me done. Search for my perfect strat pickups is completed. These have totally opened up my strat. It's like I've had cotton buds stuffed in my ears all this time until now. Installed the Ants tonight and I'm blown away. Just beautiful. I knew the neck would be good but the middle and bridge are equally mind blowing.

So I am done. Joe Bardens in my tele and these in my strat. One happy camper.

Re: Going surfing

After the honeymoon ended, the very loud G string started to really bug me. I still loved the tone but that G string was just out of control.

Happy to report that switching to a wound G string made the world of difference.

Perfection.

Re: Going surfing

I've used the Surfer set with both the Surfer Custom Bridge and also with the Texas Hot Custom bridge.

Yes: I eventually wanted a little more from the bridge pickup.

So I started using the Surfer neck and middle with the Fralin Steel Pole 43 bridge, which Strat size, but sounds a bit like a P90.

And that has become my favorite set of Strat pickups.
