Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock solo)

Tried to record one of my amp's going into the Zoom G1Xon Looper. Hooked up a Behringer ULTRA-G DI box between the amp & cab & then ran the line out into the Zoom G1Xon's input -> Stereo line out from the Zoom to my digital handheld recorder's stereo line in. (All at whisper soft/bedroom volume)

= Pretty crappy sound haha...lots of noise, some clipping/crackling & the solo's buried under everything a bit.

Made a few dumb mistakes which I'll hopefully fix next time ..too much gain/volume for the backing tracks (...had the Amp running into unedited patches on the Zoom ..should have cut the gain out like I did for the solo) Also they (backing tracks..2 guitars & bass sim) were recorded too loud & I could'nt bring the solo up high enough to cut through (patch level was maxed out). Lastly, I had to record it at a lower quality setting on my handheld recorder (16 bit 44.1 kHz instead of 24 bit 96khz) because the whole thing kept skipping/mistracking for some reason otherwise (?!?!) Anyway, one lives & learns :laugh2:

More fun with melodic shred, tapping & harmonics...too bad it's all kinda buried in the mess lol.

Guitar's My Cort X6-SA.

16/44 is still a much higher resolution than SC's stream and what most people listen to, so I wouldn't worry too much about that ... incredibly sad, but true. Most people have terrible subjective hearing these days ... :) Cool, 80s ish ballad type of thing. Is the bass part of the loop or did you play it?

Re: Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock s

Thanks :) The loop was the drum track with two guitar tracks ..the bass is a bit of both (firstly it's not a Bass guitar..I've never owned one or even played a note in my 20+ years of guitar playing :laugh2: ..just my six string with a sim..though it sounds pretty decent because I used the clean channel of my amp going into the bass sim patch). I Looped the bass line but punched out too early by mistake & then "filled in the blanks" right through again since some notes were cut out at the end (thanks to my sloppy loop pedal stomping skills haha..)

I've always liked 80's metal ballads..obviously Thrash "Power Ballads" & the Yngwie & Gary Moore stuff ...but also stuff from WASP, Dokken, Twisted Sister, Scorps, Triumph, Y&T etc..

:beerchug:

I think I'll work things out next time though. Bring the backing tracks down in the mix (and get rid of that extra drive from the ZOOM pedal patches so the noise goes), cut out some verb for the solo...that should do the trick :). Basic sounds are'nt too bad & running the amp into the looper is a definate improvement over just the onboard effects.

Frankly, my loop mixes won't win any sound awards lol....it's just fun jamming on this stuff :laugh2:

Re: Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock s

I wonder if having a very small mixer that you can set/forget might not be the answer to greater consistency.
Unless you don't care either way, in which case forget I mentioned it. :)

Re: Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock s

Maybe? but possibly not ..the problem I'm having is that I can't control the OUTPUT from the Looper. It mixes down to stereo & then sends that 'mix' to the stereo input of my handheld recorder. So it's all about adjusting the individual INPUT levels & the individual patch levels for each track/instrument (First backing guitar track, 2nd backing guitar track & bass..and then the solo which will need to be louder to cut through). So even with a mixer those adjustments will still need to be made. The mixer will just be one MORE thing to adjust :(

Re: Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock s

Had another go... :)

Pretty much the same progression/tune as last time for the backing track ...same goes for the solo but less melodic bits/more weird & OTT bits maybe :laugh2:

This time I played just one backing rhythm guitar track & turned it's level down (too much as it turned out haha..it's totally buried in the mix) The bass (sim) track is too loud & full sounding (but man.. that's a sweet "bass" tone to have coming out of a guitar :lmao:) & I played the lead on the amp's crunch channel (not the lead channel) so it's way less gainy. The Solo's clearer this time but I prefer the overall fullness/tone/balance before ..still way more work to do lol...

V2...On the tube.. :bigthumb:

OT ...but I just got this awesome little HD A/V recorder "new/factory sealed" off ebay Japan for $100 (shipped). They were like $275 in the US when they were still being sold (now discontinued) ..so... nice price! & I think It's going to be pretty cool to do my demo's with :D

It's kind of like the Zoom Q2/Q3 recorder's. But has a "mic/line-in" as well for connecting stuff (looper/external mic :naughty:) The bad news is I dropped it already (..it's pretty slim/slippery hehe) but luckily..no damage ...it still works (I think) :lmao:

The manual's only in Japanese though, it's going to take me a while to work things out. I'll have to find & d/l an English PDF..

Re: Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock s

Just plugged my loop pedal into my new Olympus LS-20 recorder & recorded a short test clip (same backing progression as before - so this is "V3" I guess lol) - two rhythm tracks, 1 bass (sim) track & a lead/solo track through the line input (audio only @ 16 bit/44khz). Sounds a lot clearer/better/less noisy than my old digital handheld recorder I think..

Looks like that POS could've been the biggest problem all along :laugh2:

haha..yeah, true...that's cool man..I'm just putting them up as I turn them out lol. Messing around & trying to get things to sound better (are'nt we all? :laugh2:)

Definitely sounds more clear than previous efforts! The opening of the solo has a bit of a Lynch vibe. :)

Re: Goldea REX 3200 15 watt high gain head -> Zoom G1Xon Looper (Melodic metal/rock s

Thanks! Guess I balanced the levels better this time & I'm pretty sure the new recorder has quite a bit to do with it too. It seems much clearer/less noisy.
