Good acoustic guitar under $300?

My friend wants to get a guitar to learn on at college. He said he could spend up to about $300. I personally don't know much about acoustics, so what would be a good bet?

a takamine gs330s isnt a bad guitar. solid cedar top, decent neck, good tone. just played one a few days ago, nice guitar for the money. have him play a couple and pick the one he likes best if its possible

id go for a Yamaha FG 423

Yamaha, Takamine, Maybe Epiphone. Depending on really what you are looking for. I would say Yamaha offers the best valu in that price range, but the Taks are nice guitars also.
