Im looking for a new bass. I play pop-punk. My budget is $400 and under so any suggestions are welcome. I was already looking at,

OLP MM2
Schecter Omen 4
Fender MIM P or J bass

Any suggestions will be helpful. Please keep bump so I can get alot of suggestions. Thank you

Re: Good basses for the price

go with a fender, good brand, decent price = decent guitar, go for the fender

Re: Good basses for the price

I have a MIA p-bass and I want to try a different style so I may go with a Jazz in Sage green or Midnight wine. Either one fitted with a White Pearloid Pickguard.

Sounds nice, the p and j basses are pretty much the standard. Good, reliable and easy to mod. Both will easily do pop-punk, i've seen many local pop-punk bands using these basses, aswell as the likes of blink182 and greenday using them or similar.

Makes sure to come back and show us some pics.

Fender. If you buy a used MIM, you can have some money leftover for pickup and or hardware changes.

how much do the hwy 1's go for used..?! i love the feel of those!

Re: Good basses for the price

For cheapo basses i like:

OLP MM2 (Yeah it's basswood, but the ones i have tried sounded great!)
Fender Highway 1 P or J (Great quality, pay the little extra from the MIM Standard and you'll get quality!)
Washburn Taurus - An old schoolmate have one it sounds great and feels great but maybe looks a little bit funny.
Yamaha BB - The new reissued BB series is my favourite of these. Everything is of great quality and the bass feels great playing.

I have heard great stuff about this Fender Mike Dirnt signature, haven't tried one myself but i have ebeen told there great for the money.

The Fender Dirnt pbass sounds really awesome, so if I had loads of cash and was going to get a bass I'd get that one...I'm no good about bass action or anything but being with my 7-string I can play just about anything so it felt just fine when messing around...sounded kickass though.

I absolutely love my Jazz bass....it's a mexican Jazz Deluxe which means it has the active electronics, but it's an incredible bass...this is another vote for a Fender
