Good cheap cab for 5150?

Well after searching for the right amp, it basically fell in my lap. A friend is going to sell me his 5150 head for a great price. So now I'm just gonna need a 4x12 cab. I've never had anything other than combos, so I really have no idea what to look for. I want something fairly good, but also fairly inexpensive. What should I look for?

oh by the way, if possible, i'd like for it to be something I could buy locally at any gc/samash type place. i really dont want to order it online (long story)

Avatar, but that's online.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy a new cab, because it won't be cheap if you want it to sound good. I'd say Avatar or Carvin (Legacy cabinet only), but you have to order it.

i bought two Marshall 4X12s for $600 total a couple years ago. $300-400/each is a good deal.

V30's, IMO.
Yes those should be a good match for the amp... quite smooth and midrangy speaker and a cool thing for heavy rock & metal.

You could get a Framus Dragon cab... they're about 100 bucks less than the Marshalls (at least over here)

Re: Good cheap cab for 5150?

Over here, they run about 900 per cab. Amazing boxes, though.
ah they are f***ck'n cheap 599 EUR ~ 708$ here

Now I'm not sure if I better want a used engl or the framus

I've just read the framus are made of plywood... that's not that good, isnt it?

Peavey 412MS usually around $185 there was a Celestion loaded version as well that'll run a bit more.

Most cabs are made of plywood, it's just very highgrade ply-birch, most often. Some cabinets, like Kranks, have solid wood... IMHO, that's overkill, and the resonance it creates is rather insane.

That said, ENGL > almost anything, even Framus.

slant looks cooler in a halfstack and that's about it.

Avatar make great cabs at low prices but yeah you have to order.

for a 4x12 i would go for two V30's and two G12H-75's. More tonal range than having four speakers of the same kind.
