Good EQ for Classic/Hard Rock on Peavey Windsor Combo.

Basically I am trying to get a good AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top< etc. kind of sound out a Peavey Windsor Combo but can't find/get a good EQ for it. Please any suggestions. Also the amp has in the Power-amp: 1x EH EL34 Pre-amp: 1x EH 12AX7 and 1x Ruby 12AX7 (the reason being is that 1 of the Pre-amp tubes blew and so diid the Power-amp and the store only had Electro Harmonix's tubes there).

I couldn't find too many useable sounds in the combo, mostly (i believe) because of the speaker. Everything through it sounds kinda raspy and thin. A lot of people seem to dislike that speaker and people say better things about the amp after swapping.
Find a celestion G12H30 and then see if you still have any trouble EQing things. If that speaker doesn't get you better classic rock tones, then I'd sell the amp.

Definitely, definitely think about some sort of better speaker.

LedSabbath,

I own a Windsor Studio and have found the tone stack to be muddy and not defined. If you look at the schematic drawing of the amp, you will notice that, if you engage the "Boost " switch. It bypass's the tone stack, it doesn't add boost. Just takes the muddy tone stack out of the circuit.

This allows the character of your guitar and pickups to be heard. With the tone stack in the circuit, my strat and ibanez sounded generic and simillar.
Without the tone stack the sound of the guitars is well defined. The strat sounds like a strat, and the ibanez sounds like the double coil fire-breathing shred stick it is!!

FuseG4 is right about changing out the speaker. I have read on several forums
that changing it out is a big improvement. Also swapping tube types could also help.

If still needed, an MXR EQ pedal might be in order.
