Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

Re: Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

The list price on this is $699, which means street is higher than a POD X3 Live. So you get 4 effects at a time (the X3 has 5) and no amp modeling, and no included exp pedal for more money. The included looper is a nice bonus, but only if they included the features missing from the DL-4 (feedback control, ability for the loop to retain stereo image of effects).

Still at this price, there are a lot of choices out there.

i think it has some potential since it has multiple outs including an FX loop out and is true bypass and is also only FX modeling and not amp/cab modeling. everyone and their mom uses the DL4 for delay and quite a few people use the MM4 too so it's pretty much like those plus the other two 4 knob stomp boxes in one big package and a dedicated looper and tuner.

also it's not as big as it looks from what i read. it's about the size of two of the 4 knob pedals.

i'm a pedal junkie and wouldn't replace my board but i'll certainly check one of these out since it's convenient and nicely packaged. might be a nice second board.

the amp modeling is where line 6 is so so IMO, the FX modeling is what they do best. hence why i like this over the pod and all that...which i own.

Re: Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

I would actually consider this a viable option for someone like myself who plays live, refuses to use anything but tube amps, and hates the deal with a bunch of pedals and crap.

It's like a multi-fx without all the junk I'd never need or use.

That said... it's still a digital pedal, and thus fallible compared to true analog circuitry.

Re: Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

I'm not a huge fan of L6 in the first place but wow, $699, thats pretty pricey for modeled effects I think.

For that kind of money you can pick up the real versions of top notch analog effects that the L6 tries to model.

I'm not against digital technology by any means, but I think its best to keep the analog stuff analog and use digital for exciting new effects.

I've got the NI guitar rig software and instead of trying to copying an existing effect, I like to use it to create new sounds. Thats the strength of digital.

You want classic sounds and pedals, buy classic sound and pedals. You want to create new sounds ? Then go digital. And you can certainly mix the two together for the best of old and new.

This is the kinda thing that lead to the conclusion that rack-mount gear was where it's at in the 80's....

Re: Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

Very impressive, but I don't see how this is any better than other floor processors available now. There's no wah and octave effects and no foot rocker. That seems like a major setback IMO.

Re: Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

I'm not sure who the market for this thing is.

It's cool, but I really don't know who would buy it. The people with 18 pedals on their board aren't going to say "you know, I think it would be better to replace everything with a digital modeler." If I were in that situation, I'd get something like a Carl Martin Combinator. The people who like modelers already have a Pod or amp that has all these effects.

I could see it being handy for the cover band guy who plays "Money" and "Where The Streets Have No Name" in the same set, but even then it's a bit of a stretch.

Re: Good heavens Line6 Stombox modeler

Pppffffftt...half the price, all the sounds you'll ever need, easier to use, PLUS it has an Octave up/down and an expression pedal/wah/volume...and Boss is the yardstick that other stomp pedals are judged by.
