Good humbucker for Alternative

Re: Good humbucker for Alternative

Depends on your guitar rig. I recommend a SH-5 Duncan Custom + 59' neck combination for that sound.
Got amazing results with that combination on my DBZ Bolero. It WORKS!

Re: Good humbucker for Alternative

Cool! I was reading about the custom (TB-5) and its apparently very bright in alder like bodies. Will it be very bright in a poplar one? And is it bad?

Re: Good humbucker for Alternative

Well I have heard poplar that was really bright, and like my Music Man, very mid heavy and dark. I use a Custom 5 in mine to counteract that. So it is really up to the individual piece of wood.

So, that's the best thing about any of the Customs, one can swap the magnet to another one, so in the end one can get a balanced or unbalanced tone if thry wish. Then they are also versatile and a really decent wind for that more then vintage flavor. The magnet that one places in them can make them go from medium to pretty hot output levels. They are a really good place to start and probably one of the best winds to learn about magnets and how they effect tone as well.
