i was wondering if you could recomend me a good bridge humbucker for my strat copy (peavey raptor) I play metal and would like something with good treble and mids and some okay bass. I would also like it to be versitile and sound good without the amp cranked up
thanks

Re: good humbucker for bridge in a strat

I've heard a C5 in a strat and I liked that. People here also like the Custom in a strat.

I have a Bare Knuckle VHII in the bridge of my Strat. It's great for classic metal tones; it will do higher gain stuff if you push it enough, but it's specialty is in old school hard rock/metal tones.

My Favorite guitarist: Mr. Bruce Kulick uses a JB in his ESP Strat Copies and I LOVE his tone.

my suggestion is the JB, unless you want to go heavier... then I would suggest something else, but the JB does some serious rock.

Rock On!

stay away from the C5 in a strat.......I'd try the JB for what you describe.

Re: good humbucker for bridge in a strat

You do want to be careful to pick a 'bucker that won't overpower the single coils so you don't have this unacceptably huge drop-off when you switch from bridge to neck or neck/middle or something.

Re: good humbucker for bridge in a strat

I think you'd like a Custom, Custom 5, or JB in a strat. Stay away from mini hums in the bridge position...they never sound as good as an HSS strat. However, I think you'd really like mini hums in the neck position. If you rarely use 2,3, and 4 positions, and mostly use the bridge and neck, a Hotrails, Cool Rails, JB Jr, or lil 59 works nicely in the neck, along with a fullsize humbucker like a JB in the bridge.

For metal, I think you'd really like a JB Trem/stock middle to save money/Cool Rails.
If you don't mind spending, add a Cool Rails middle.

What no love for the CC? That is my favorite full sized humbucker that I've used in a strat. I do not like the C-5. but you might. I don't know anything about the JB.

For higher output I love a CC in a Strat. The 59 ( I swapped in an A2 magnet) served me extremely well too.

The CC is my Strat bridge pickup. It's what I want my guitar to sound like y'know?

Re: good humbucker for bridge in a strat

I have three single pickup Strats. One has a 59 Trembucker and one has a Custom Custom trembucker. I'm going to put a Custom Trembucker in my #3. Those are the three I would recommend. So far, the 59 Trembucker is my fave because I can get great Eric Clapton wih Cream tones from it. But I'm really enjoying the Custom Custom too...it's hotter, and the mids are much thicker and more pronounced. It also calms down some of the steeley biting quality that's part of a Strat's inherant tone. Lew
