Re: good overdrive pedal???

Your timing is just right, because the Way Huge Green Rhino just came out, and it's absolutely great! $130 Go buy one.

Re: good overdrive pedal???

I just had a Nomad 45 in my shop last week...those amps have an enormous amount of gain! They don't do the chug thing very well though. Putting the little switch on the back on "extreme" may help but the nature of that amp really doesn't support what you are wanting it to do. If it has the V-30 speakers in it, changing to something with a more aggressive bass response may help too.

I have a Mark IV but use overdrive on the clean channel for some classic rock tones. I use an Fulltone OCD for transparent type overdrive and a Hardwire CM-2 for the tube screamer type voicing. I have tried a lot of pedals and these are the ones I kept.

watchitgo = Pantera

I've never played a Nomad so I can't comment. For me, the MXR Classic Distortion & Classic OD from Guitar Center ($40) work great. I prefer the aggressiveness of the Classic Distortion into my Bogner Shiva, but I'm more into 80's thrash (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth). I think the Wampler Triple Wreck delivers heavy tone, but it might be too round/smooth for what you want, and that's more a distortion box than an OD. The OCD gets a lot of praise, but is finicky on particular amps.

Boss SD-1 or a Morley Bad Monkey will get you the most bang for your buck. the trick is to run the level up and gain down.

Re: good overdrive pedal???

I feel like it is way easier to find a good overdrive pedal than it is to find a decent distortion pedal.

My 2 overdrive pedal recommendations for today will be the MI Audio Blues Pro and the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive CB. (These 2 companies also make some of the good distortions, in my opinion, by the way)

Re: good overdrive pedal???

Here is my bid from me playing quite a bit of metal and pantera type stuff I would fo with

Tone Freak Severe
Suhr Riot

those are the 2 best metal type distortions I can think of.
