Good Pot, Man

I took the advice of some of you players and replaced the 250K volume pot in my Zion with a 500K pot. Remarkable difference! I'm not so quick to change out the previously-muddy-sounding JB now. Should I do the same for the tone push/pull pot?

That's my experience too. Humbuckers with 250K pots sound muddy or like the tone is covered by a blanket to me.

The JB is a rare one that works with either 250K pots or 500K pots...but 500K would be my preference. However, if a guy thought the JB was to aggressive or hard sounding, then 250K or 300K would be a way to tame it a little.

Agreed. The 500K lifted the blanket off the tone and made me like the pickup better. I'm still considering replacing the JB because it sounds too mid-out-front to my ear. I've considered trying a Pearly Gates or Blues Saraceno PATB, or possibly a DiMarzio Air Norton or a 36th anniversary model. Actually, I don't know what the heck I'm doing when it comes to shopping the right pups. Trial and error I guess and everyone has an opinion.
