Good price for les paul standard

New to the forum and looking to buy my first nice guitar so I came here for some help. I found a mint condition standard that has basically sat in a closet the past seven years - looks new. I can get it for $1,500... Is this an awesome deal? Should I still be looking at a new 2016 or 2017?

Anything worth considering that differentiates the 2010, 2016, and 2017 standard? (I'm not looking at the HP models)

Whats a good price on a new standard and where can it be found?

Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for helping the noob :)

Re: Good price for les paul standard

Sounds like a good deal since brand new LP Standards run up to $3,000 to $4,000 average price. Show us some pictures if you can. And welcome to the forum.:arms:

When looking at the Standards don't forget to look at the Traditionals. Same flavor different animal.

Your best price guides are "Completed Sales" on E-Bay.com; Reverb.com and the Vintage Guitar Magazine "Price Guide". The VGMPG lists values for instruments in EXCELLENT condition. There are also some Blue Books that pawn shops use. Another resource would be the Les Paul Forum.

If you like the guitar, all the "other stuff" like age, doesn't matter. Guitars made in 2012 may be the exception, due to Gibson using a laminated or "layered" fingerboard to the dismay of many customers. I have a 2012 ES-335, the lamination is not a factor to me...the guitar plays perfectly and sounds sublime.

Quality of the figure on the top will influence prices greatly on used LP's. If it doesn't sound amazing, the price isn't right.
