Good read about DIY album production

I've probably posted this before, but I came across the album on my MP3 player tonight, and had a listen. It reminded me of this article, which I've always thought was a great one. It's about the making of a CD by Rochester's Atomic Swindlers, a heavily-layered art-rock piece similar in style to David Bowie or latter-day Beatles. However, they had almost no budget and did it all on a shoe string. I love the beg/borrow/steal way they managed to get it done, and how they in many cases "made do" with familiar, old-fashioned equipment which still gave them stellar sounds. Smarts, talent, and dedication win out over fancy gear and big budgets.

Link to the article.

Definitely a worthwhile read, and a great CD if you can find it.
