Re: good reverb pedal?

How much do you want to spend?

The Electro Harmonix holiestgrail looks pretty sweet but it is around $365. They have a lesser version that is $100 too that seems about like a built in reverb.

Re: good reverb pedal?

i dont want to blow an ultra fat load, but i will spend what is necesary to get what i want

and i want a pedal that aint soem fat honking deal like the holiest grail

i want quality but also simplicity, as in not whats pictured above

Re: good reverb pedal?

The Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail and the Line 6 Verbzilla have received very favorable reviews. Neither of them are really expensive (Holy Grail is cheaper than the Verbzilla) and neither are particularly big in size. Try them out at your local store if you can.

Re: good reverb pedal?

This is a bit off on a tangent, but you may want to consider the Yamaha MagicStomp II. MF is blowing these out at $79.99. As a multi-effects pedal, they have some shortcomings, but as a single pedal, (that can morph to anything), they aren't bad. Yamaha has always been known for their excellent reverb algorythms and the MagicStomp does good there. Just the controls aren't that user friendly. It also does good on anything "time-domain" related: phasor, flanger, chorus, echo, etc.

Just a thought.

Re: good reverb pedal?

Lew gave a RAVE review of the Verbzilla. Which is quite remarkable considering how little he likes digital technology in his signal chain.

I still have not had the opportunity to try one. Not that I think that I'll get one anytime soon, though.

OR you could grab a Fender reverb tank for the real thing:bigok:

Re: good reverb pedal?

I tried the Fender Reverb Tube Unit and I was in AWE!!!!! Quite amazing, despite what one would think, the price is good. You dont get all the handwiring and exact historical accuracy (6V6 instead of the 6K6), but you get that lovely tube sound that just cant be substituted. I think Im going to pick one up after I save some more cash after I get my Tweed Twin. I played it through a Bassman LTD and loved it so much, I dont even care for the Bassman LTD too much, so imagine how it would sound with some better tubes (especially a NOS 6K6 which is a pretty cheap, easy find) and my favorite amp! Looks killer too!

But of course, some people want something that will be cheaper and not hard to maintain. I like the Holy Grail as well, very small, very simple, the spring setting is the best I've heard (never tried its worthiest and more feature-filled oponent, the Verbzilla, which Im sure is amazing too), but I will just add a big +1 to the Holy Grail. Hall setting is very useful too. The settings on the pedal get very extreme, cuts out the dry signal when all the way up (sounds like Over the Hills and Far Away when it sounds like bells or whatever). Very good 'verb. Good luck with your decision!

Re: good reverb pedal?

I've put some heavy thought into it and I'll be picking up the EH holy grail. Lately I've found that I like their construction and design ethic. I've been tempted to get the Verbzilla, but I don't want to spend the extra $20 for it and I don't need a buttload of options. I want a good sounding reverb and I want simplicity. No need for swappable circuit pedal housings and their added expense. If those marketing geniuses at Line 6 would have made a cheaper one housing unit I would invest in that instead. They were more interested in novelty than in good solid designs.

Re: good reverb pedal?

A Zoom 507 if you can find one. It can immitate just about anything you want.

I'll second the HOLY GRAIL - cheap & bloody FANTASTIC, PERIOD !

Oh, and it is very simple to work, and last for years, and years, and . . .
