Got a custom/59n combo, should the neck pup louder?

I've finally installed a custom sh-5 bridge pup on a gibson les paul standard and I want to know from you guys who have the same combo, how loud is the bridge pup compared to the 50 neck pup. I find that om my les paul, the 59 is still louder. I've expected that the custom should be louder.

In my guitar that I have them in, they're quite perfectly matched, no noticable volume change when switching. I could make the bridge louder if i wanted to raise it up, but I like them even. have you tried playing with the heights yet?

They should be pretty similar in volume, try messing around with the pickup and polepiece height. Adjusting the pickup will have an effect on tone as well, more so than adjusting the poles.

The Custom is indeed a loud pickup, but one that balances well with a 59. I'd get the Custom sounding good in the bridge, then balance the neck by lowering it. You should hit the sweet spot easily.

Thanks guys. I've already set up the height of both pups but I'm just expecting more output from the custom. BTW, my wiring is like this - red & white soldered together then I used the green wire as my hot wire and grounded the black & bare wire. Would this matter? In the duncan wiring diagram, the hot wire is the black wire.

Nope, you should be fine, but just make sure that if you ever swap one of the pickups that you wire it the same way, or else it will be out of phase.

Neck pickups always sound louder due to their position, you can pair a 59 or Jazz with a monster bridge pickup like distortion or black winter and they can still match volume. 59 also has some seriously heavy bass in a Les Paul. You might be hearing the big thump of bass in the neck and not as much in the bridge. I'd do what Mincer suggested: lower the neck pickup. Some guys even change the magnet to an A3 or A4 to tone down the bass.
