Got a "fender" e xcelsior amp at pawnshop for $200 all tube amp and amp tremolo how kool is that . What I really love about it is the 15 " speaker projects the sound out and I can hear at low volumes. I messed up my ears up playing next to loud drummer for many years so this is a kool amp for me.no reverb sucks but think a boss 63 reverb pedal might be kool. they sound good on you tube . I have been thinking about ge tting a swampy tremolo amp and perfecting a ccr pops staples sound .so for $200 I am under budget any thought on how to mod for a kooler swamp sound

I came so close to buying a New/Blem Vaporizer in rocket red the other day but opted for a new guitar instead. I still might buy it, the spring reverb is amazing and the price is quite nice as well! I've already got 7 valve amps and 2 S.S.'s @ my house and then my VOX AC-30CC2 is @ my drummer's place.

Mostly because it's heavy as $#it & AC's just don't travel well, but also because I don't have much room left @ home... Maybe I can squeeze it in between my Orange head & 2X12 cabinet? See, now you got me going again! I'm giving my girl you're name if she flips out on me, LOL!!!

They are great amps I have had no desire to mod mine. Controlling the tone and gain with the guitar is what makes the Excelsior fun and funky to play. I rarely plug a pedal into it and when I do it is more for curiosity than necessity. With the right OD/Boost those things turn into little high gain metal machines and get loud as hell.

I've got a tan Excelsior Pro I modded with BillM's tone pot mod, and also a blue Vaporizer.

I love the Vaporizer because it has power stage gain at the perfect volume. I don't even turn on the full blast Vaporizer mode, but it does sound good like that too for single coil soloing.

The Excelsior Pro benefits most from it's Eminence Legend speaker. It's got less ratty breakup than the one in the brown Excelsior. One nice thing about the BillM mod is that you can pull up the knob, bypassing the entire tone stack. On an unmodded Excelsior, try and find the in-between spot on the tone switch. Wiggle the switch till it's right beyween dark and bright.
