Got a TS9 - tips?

Hey dudes. I finally got a ibanez TS-9 tubescreamer, in all its ugly, snot-green glory. So I already discovered that it improves my u-vibe sound infinitely for some reason, but could you guys drop me some user tips, settings, whatever else? Thanks

From what I hear, John's mod is so good it's a necessity for all TS-9s. Isn't that right Lew? :)

Yep! We all saw those gratitude posts! :)

I just set em so the volume is a little louder than your flat signal, then suit gain to taste - for an LP, you'll want more of a clean boost than with a strat or single coil equipped guitar

Right on !!! Send it to Stratdeluxer97, and have him mod it to TS-808 specs. Makes it smoother, more "open", and just improves it all around !!! ....:)

Total 1000% agreement...that's 10 times more agreement than a mere 100%!

The way SRV used the TS-9 is the way I use it too: drive about 9 o'clock;
tone about 12 o'clock; level about 3 to 5 o'clock.

So the dirve is turned way down and the level is turned way up.

Then adjust to taste....

John's the mon, mon :burnout: !

Re: Got a TS9 - tips?

SRV used two in a row as well as do many famous people. I only have one, and I set the level to 100% the tone to about 30% and the drive to around 60%. My LP sounds really nice through it. If you are interested in the ts9 LP tones you can get, check out Oasis' stuff as much of that is from that combo!

Re: Got a TS9 - tips?

I generally run mine at

Drive 0
Tone 6
Level 8-10

If I want more gain, I usually turn up the tone knob. For some reason, it just sounds better to me that way.

Although I always like to experiment with what others post in these TS-9 threads.

Re: Got a TS9 - tips?

Screaming Daisy, did you take that no drive, all level trick from Killswitch Engage? That's exactly what they do with their recto's.

Re: Got a TS9 - tips?

Drive: 9-10 o'clock
Tone: Anywhere (lower for TS-808 tones, higher for modern TS-9 tones)
Level: Full Up

Honestly, I did it because when I turned the drive up it made my Recto sound like sh*t.

I found using drive works well when pushing my clean channel, but when pushing the dirt channel it just plain sounds bad.

For the last week or so I've been experimenting with different channel voicings and low gain settings, along with how they sound when boosted, but I don't want to post my settings since I'm not completely happy with all of my results. Although I have found some surprisingly good old school medium gain type settings on channel 2 Raw, and they seem to work well with the SRV settings above.

Does it spook you?

Not at all....Just try to tell me what you dislike about your pedal and what specific mode you want changed...I know I can come up with something,I always do! :laugh2:  Might take me a bit to figure out the circuit and their mindset on the pedal... :smack:
