Got my Edwards!

Well yesterday actually, but I was too busy playing it to tell you guys!!!

I arrived on the day that the seller said it would, had to pay nearly £100 customs charges, but no biggie, I expected that. Well packed, real thick card box with a hell of a lot of bubblewrap and newspaper and it was taped down well so it didn't move.

The guitar itself is just excellent, the body is a little thicker than my Studio (maybe 1/2"?) and the neck join (the bit on the cutaway, where the neck and body join) is unnoticeable, you can feel it on the Studio, the Neck is about the same, although the frets seem a little more rounded than the gibson ones.

The wood and the finish have kept me staring at it while I am not playing it, nice colour on the top and the back/neck are nicely grained too.

It plays great, action is a little high, and it has 9's on it! :saeek: I can't really compare the sound too much as I plan to put some heavier strings on it first.

There are some pics attached, I will take more soon, need to get more batteries for the camera first.

That's a beauty. Congrats. I bet after a good setup she'll play like a dream and you'll never put her down. :)

Gibson who?

That's what I've been thinking all day...

Don't get me wrong, I still like my studio, but this def. has more of a vintage vibe to it, as opposed the studios modern vibe.

That top is nice, I usually end up with solid/trans colour guitars though, because I only seem to like honeyburst or natural LPs for some reason, or weird colours like greenburst/blueburst and a couple of the new gibson ones.

Re: Got my Edwards!

That thing looks great! Unless you've done it before, you should take it to a good luthier and have the nut reslotted for 10's or 11's, and have the neck and intonation set perfectly. I've had to do that on almost every guitar I've ever bought. Companies just don't setup guitars good enough to be considered a pro setup.....with the exception of the PRS guitars I've bought.

Re: Got my Edwards!

Freakin' sweeeeeeeet!!! I love it. And like they said, get it set up. You'll love it after that.

Re: Got my Edwards!

Very sweet! How much for the whole deal, with customs and VAT and shipping, if I may ask?

Re: Got my Edwards!

Altogether it was £585 (Guitar=£400 Shipping=£90 Customs=£95)

Once it is set up this guitar will be great for sure, feels a bit weird playing 9's, it's been a while... they feel like they are gonna snap!

It's quite worrying having a Guitar shipped from Japan, that's a long way, glad it got here OK.

Re: Got my Edwards!

That's a nice price... 100 quid less than a LP studio, and the guitar looks better :D What pickups does it have stock?

Re: Got my Edwards!

JB & 59n come stock :), also the build quality is better for the money compared to the studio (long neck tenon, nitro laquer, better finish, bound body and neck, one piece back, I think one piece neck too)

Re: Got my Edwards!

The neck feels very similar to my studio, which is a 59 profile IIRC, not too thick, not too thin (or at least in my hand).

The only place I know of is Ebay, that's where mine came from, there are a couple of good sellers who list lots of Edwards, Burny, Tokai, Greco, Orville and other Japanese guitars. As far as I know the only ones you'd be able to get new are Edwards, or at least lately...

Re: Got my Edwards!

Congrats, Rinse.

She looks beautiful.

How is the inlay work? Pretty clean and tight? Or is there much filler around the edges?

Just an FYI.
The reason ESP and others can put such a nice tops on these mid priced guitars is because they are veneers.
The thin veneers are over a carved plain maple top.
So, to me the veneer will effect the tone no more than a primed and painted gold top.

I htink I like Jazz better, or at least at the moment, but I might get a Custom 5 & a Jazz and make some hybrids for it, and something like the Jimmy Page wiring, :scratchch that would be good...

Thanks for all the replies, it is a beautiful guitar and since I don't seem to sell any guitars I shall be enjoying playing this for some time.
