Got my hands on a Starfire IV today, but...

The Starfire 4 sounded awesome. It the body had a nice feel. But the neck was way too thin for me. Just not a good fit...

Anyone have any suggestions for a similar sounding guitar, with a thicker neck, in the $1400-1800 range?

well the closest thing i know is an es 335, but they are usually more expensive.

Is the starfire a new model? one made by fender? I am really curious to see how they have changed the guitars. my bluesbird felt just like one from RI though mine was made just after the move from RI to CA. Thanks

Yeah, the Starfire I played was an '03. It is a beautiful guitar... very solid... very well made. Sounds perfect... great range of tones. I would have bought it in a heart beat. The neck on thing is just so darn shallow!

This thread just reminded me about my guitar I built with my old teacher years ago. I wanted it to be very similar to a Starfire. Sucks the guy moved his shop and I never got it completely finished. :smack: I really need to fix that thing up and start playing it.

Have any of you played a Guild Blues 90 or a Guild Bluesbird? Are the necks thicker on these guys? Can they get the depth of a bluesbox?
