Got my new recording setup set up (CLIPETY CLIP)

I posted a thread while ago about getting a new recording setup. I did, thanks for all the advice.

Here's what it sounds like: https://soundcloud.com/user860819272/setup-test-1

Excuse the hasty playing, but do tell me what you think about the tone and sound quality.

Setup was:

Tokai LC85 - THD Univalve - 1*12 open back cab with a Cannabis Rex - Audix i5 - Scarlett 2i2 - PC with Ableton Live Lite 9

Welcome to your new money pit! :)
Will listen as soon as I have a chance.

What he said ^

Unfortunately a isolated guitar track tells us next to nothing about the tone and sound quality. Let's hear it all together in a mix to really judge your skills.

FWIW sounds like you got the mic placed at a decent spot for chunk and smoothing out the highs...but once again, will sound much different in a mix. Also, is your amp down low, or are you just tickling the bugger? Sounds like its missing a little something.....once again though (sick of hearing this yet?) might sound great in the mix as is.

I'm definitely going to put out full songs, that's why I got the thing, I just did this quickly as my first test when setting up the gear. I tried to make the guitar mix friendly instead of bedroom friendly already. The amp was about 5/8 open, full power, though I did have the noise reduction bulb on. There's no gain knob so all the dirt comes from opening up the amp.

For other instruments I have Addictive Drums and EZdrummer, a Roland FP7 for piano and organ, Arturia Analog Factory and some other soft synths, and a Warwick bass, either DI or through a small Line6, whichever sounds better.

A Univalve? What are you running for a tube by chance? EL34? Wish you had center panned, but it sounds good.

Re: Got my new recording setup set up (CLIPETY CLIP)

I run a Picovalve (yeah I know, but I could afford it) through a Cannibis Rex in a closed back cab from Gregg's Pro Audio. Bought the cab, installed the speaker. Good deal.

It has an EL34B right now. Some old tube I grabbed first from the closet. I may have to get me a Svetlana SED or something similar and see if it sounds better.

Like the crunch a lot ... but was hard to concentrate on it as it was only coming out of one speaker!

Re: Got my new recording setup set up (CLIPETY CLIP)

I didn't realize the panning issue. I forgot my studio headphones at the rehearsal place and used computer speakers. I'll have to fix the problem. Ableton Live probably had stereo tracks as a default and put the mono in only on one side. Or something like that.
