Havent put it in yet, but I am anticipating good things. Figured I'd post while the iron heats up.
EDIT:
OK, I got it in. No one seem to really care (lol) so this is for anyone with an Ibanez RG style 7 string with direct mount pups who is interested in a SD pup and might happen to use the search.
The SH5 did not fit right without modification to the guitar! The stock pups were about twice as tall, leaving the SD way too low when used with the direct mount pad. The threaded mounting holes on the SD also present a problem, since they wont work correctly to adjust height if the pup is direct mounted, and the screws that would work correctly will not fit through the mounting holes on the pup.
The pup cavities are also non standard, having no recess for adjustment screws used with pickup rings. Not a huge problem if you have some shorter screws, but I didnt...
I ended up drilling the holes to mount the pickup ring, and routing a bit to make the pup cavity more "standard", adding the recess for the pup ring screws. I wont be able to direct mount a pickup there anymore, but I wont need to I dont think, because the SH5 kicks tons of ass. The clarity and tight bottom end are heavenly after the comparatively flubby stock Ibby pup.
