Got some KT-77s in the Mesa :]

Rocks! Soooo Much better than the factory tubes. I bought a set of preamp tubes and a selection of power amp tubes(EL34L, 6L6, and the KT-77s) from eurotubes.com and the difference is night and day. This hiss is a shadow of what it was, unless you set the gain and the treble up real high it's completely eliminated. The KT-77s really brought the mid into a full on wall of ripping tone, that's as good as I can explain it but I would definitely recommend trying them out.

For those who haven't heard of KT-77s, *disclaimer - I'm no expert, but many people online that I would consider experts have expressed these statements* they are a direct replacement for EL34's (though you may have to bias them) and they give a more 'hi-fi' sound. To my ears, they are more focused and 'dense' sounding, Thick and punchy. Just really good sounding tubes, though I'm no expert, they kill the factory tubes.

I also have to give the guys at eurotube.com some serious credit. I ordered the tubes Monday night and they arrived here today (Thursday)! That's so much faster than I could ever expect.

I only got to compare the EL34Ls and the KT-77s. I tried the EL34Ls first and I was really pleased, then a swapped to the KT-77s. I couldn't stop playing and they got too hot to switch to the 6L6s. But the KT-77s are fatter than the EL34Ls to my ears. Once again, I'm no expert, but I'd recomend checking these tubes out.

I just installed a set of KT-77 in my Rectoverb, and my results are identical to yours! These tubes are amazing! I've had Electro Harmonix 6CA7 tubes in it for a long time, and every other tube I've tried has fallen short of it, including the E34L - I found it to have an piercing high end and hollow midrange (with my settings).

The KT-77, however, are exactly like you said - thick dense and punchy as hell! Very quiet too. Like you said, it really brought the mids out, and I'm very pleased with the results.

I ordered mine Tuesday (14th) and they arrived TODAY the 16th - less than 2 days later! Unbelievable!:bigthumb: :bigthumb: :bigthumb: :bigthumb: :bigthumb: :bigthumb:

Re: Got some KT-77s in the Mesa :]

The KT designation stands for "kinkless triode", which is why they sound more hi-fi. Unlike an EL34 that would have kinks in it's frequency curve, eg. a midrange hump, KT-77's were designed to give a flat frequency response and sound more transparent.

I'd like to hear comparisons of original KT-77's and these new KT-77 clones to see how they measure up.

Re: Got some KT-77s in the Mesa :]

I'd like to hear more about how the KT-77s compare to the 6L6s. I've tried EL34s in my Recto before, but I thought they killed the tone of the amp.

KT-77 seems like great valves... i migth have to buy some, just to have them! :D

Re: Got some KT-77s in the Mesa :]

I currently run JJ E34L's in my Tremoverb and love it. I was thinking of giving the KT77's a try though. If they do as people say I don't think I would be disappointed.

Just the change from Mesa 6L6's to the JJ E34L's already had a huge impact on my tone.

Re: Got some KT-77s in the Mesa :]

Don't mistake the EH '6CA7' for the Philips/Sylvania 6CA7---the latter are phenomenal tubes.

DO KT77's still have the EL34 mojo

I don't want my Marshall to sound 6L6'd out

To me they sound like a FAT EL34. you have the mid, with maybe a little less 'honk', thicker lows, tight fat highs. I don't think they sounded much like the stock 6L6s I had in my Recto, but similar to the EL34Ls I tried. I'd imagine they would sound killer in a Marshall.
