we had a break in the weather today and I was able to paint the Cabronita. I ended up going with Toreador Red metallic. What do you guys think? No clear coats on it yet. Just color.

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

Not a fan of red anything, but that does look slick. I like how the grain shows through just enough to give it a bit of "warmth". Nice job!

Thank my girlfriend for that. When I was working with my scrap pieces I didnt use a primer and it looked really good so I decided to roll with it.

Nice lookin color, but ain't no hillbilly fixin to be doing the rrrs with that slick cursive.

+1 On the grain showing through, Looks Great! Should really pop when the clearcoat is applied.

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

thanks everyone. Its my first time doing a finish and I was worried it would look like complete and total arse.

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

Looks good! Though I can't really make out if the metallic part of the paint is showing or not. Maybe it'll come out more once it's clear coated?

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

yeah it will come out a bit more once it is clear coated. It would prolly come out alot more if I had put more coats on. Here check out my scrap work. I found a place where you can get ghost flakes to mix in with the clear. I thought about adding a bit more in some of the clear coats but not sure. Thought of a ghost gold.

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

That's going to look real cool, the way the grain comes through is great. Kind of reminds me of some Levinson Blade finishes I saw back in the late 90's if I recall correctly. Nice work.

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

Thanks d1dsj, I ordered the ghost flake. gonna mix just a small amount up in my lacquer and run it thru a prevail sprayer. then finish it off with clear.

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

Very sharp looking indeed! I've had thoughts about adding some colour to my Tele...I'll be watching how this goes very carefully! :D

Re: got the Cabronita painted!!

Grain and ghost flake ? cool ! !

yeah it may turn out to be a disaster but I thought if i can mix it super light. Just enough to make it shine when the light hits it. May be kind of pimpin :) Thats why you always practice on scrap first.
