Gotoh/Wilkinson VS-100N Trem Block

Hey folks, I just got this bridge in the mail today and gosh-darn, is it purdy looking.

I got it from this website: http://www.philadelphialuthiertools...0n-2-point-non-locking-tremolo-bridge-chrome/

(Didn't bother posting any pictures, since it looks exactly the way it does on the link)

It came advertised as having a steel trem block, but when I tested the block with a magnet today, it didn't stick to it. Have I been ripped off or is there more to the story here? The tremolo did come in its original Gotoh box, meaning it should be a pretty top-notch quality bridge. Like most wilky bridges, the block is coated in some black substance. Could that be what is preventing the magnetism?

Anyone got a clue?

If the magnet didn't stick, it isn't steel, no matter how much "black substance" is on it. Can't imagine that they would use stainless steel (which isn't magnetic).

Re: Gotoh/Wilkinson VS-100N Trem Block

It doesn't say anywhere in there that it's a steel block.

Gotoh makes good stuff, I wouldn't **** a brick about it.

Re: Gotoh/Wilkinson VS-100N Trem Block

The VS-100 has a steel baseplate and saddles, not a steel sustain block. I don't see anywhere on that site where the block is advertised to be steel, either.

You'll find that the thick zinc block helps balance the response nicely...not too dull, not too thin.

Congrats on opting for the Gotoh-made unit. Those are the best of the Wilkinsons.

It used to, but I contacted the website about the issue and they admitted they goofed. They corrected that detail shortly afterward.
