Graphtech saddles changing tone?

I recently got some Graphtech saddles for my strat and I dunno if I'm just getting spoiled by my Fat Strat but it seems as if the bass has been slightly reduced. Am I hearing things? Did the graptech saddles suck up the bass?

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

I tried some Graphtech saddles in a Les Paul once and they definitely changed the tone. Lost the top and bottom end, also gave me setup issues. I sent them back and got a refund. Good people to deal with, but the product wasn't for me. May be totally different with a Strat.

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

I have the Ferraglides on my strat and haven't noticed any difference compared to my friend's stock strats. They are stainless steel and just have inserts directly under the string.

These aren't the Ferraglides, though. They're the all-grey ones.

Right, I was just noting that if the straight graphite ones do anything, I haven't noticed it with the Ferraglides...

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

dont put them on your wound strings. Only the ones that break alot, IE: E, B and G

hah i break more low E's than anything

Every person I've seen who breaks low E's period has either burrs in the saddles or picks WAY too hard.

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

This is just flat-out annoying.

My MIM strat has really been having a TON of problems recently. It will not stay in tune (even if I play without bending or ANYTHING and the bridge it locked down to the body), the Graphtechs screwed up the tone, and remember how the A string was buzzing for no reason? I was playing the guitar last night and now the D string is starting to do it as well!

The neck relief is OK, the intonation is on, the action is just how i like it, what the hells going on?

I'm starting to think about "retiring" the guitar. I'd never sell it because its my first real electric guitar, but I'm just slowly getting sick of putting repairs and mods into a 10-year old, $250 guitar.

Margh.

I used to break low Es all of the time when I started playing . . . I was playing punk power chords with lots of palm muting and heavy picks. I kinda toned it down over the last little while, and the problem went away . . .

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

I once put in the graphtech saddles into my TOM on my LP and it to the B out of bright, if you know what I mean. I liked them a lot. Only thing was it was a be..aatch to put them in.

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

I have graphtechs on my Telecaster and they changed the tone a bit but in a good way! I got more bass and body to the overall sound, I can almost hear some Les Paul there ;) I don't know how they would work in my Les Paul though, someday I might try em..

Re: Graphtech saddles changing tone?

I love Graphtechs on my Custom Dinky, stringss last forever, and the tone is perfect (although they were also stock on her)

But In my experiecnce GTs tend to "midify" the tone a bit, as if there were a light attenuation in teh highs and the bass....nothing huge, but definitely enough to annoy someone looking for either real bright or real dark ;)

Or leaves them on forever and a day

But Non-Lead players do tend to break the wound ones more often thatn the plain ones, not everyone is a shredder DSS ;)
