Gravity Gold Series Picks

The new premium line of picks from Gravity Guitar Picks just started shipping, and I have a few. They come in most of the same shapes and sizes as the regular Gravity acrylic picks, and they come in 3 different thicknesses - 1mm, 1.5mm and 2.5mm. Compared to the acrylic ones, these have less picking/attack noise, and are slightly darker and warmer in tone. They also produce more volume than most picks. They are made from a specialized high grade thermoplastic that is used for such things as bearings and components of racing yachts. It reportedly costs bunches of hundreds of dollars per square foot, and is also hard to machine (it is so tough that it can't be cut to blanks by the regular laser cutters, it must be water-jetted, then shaped and finished). So they are expensive - $29/each. Believe it or not there are MORE expensive picks than this, and this one IMO is a better product than those. Apparently they will outlast King Tut.

I'm finding they are a great all around pick, but they seem to just LOVE flatwound strings (they just enhance the quietness and smoothness of the flats).

Re: Gravity Gold Series Picks

Ive always been up for trying new picks.. but at 29 bucks a whack... not sure I could bring myself to just try... 30 cents.. all day.. 2 bucks.. sure.. 5 bucks.. ok why not... 29... ehhhh They would have to be spectacularly cool. Like Phoebe Cates getting out of a swimming pool in a red bikini cool...

Does the $29 also give you a guarantee that they can't be lost? I think that's what I'd be most afraid of!

I guess I'll have to concede that for somebody who loses things these may not be the best idea. And I guess I'm a bit OCD in that I have certain places certain things go to without fail: my car keys and pocket knife ALWAYS go in my right front pocket (or on the nightstand), the house keys ALWAYS go in my left front pocket. Each different guitar has it's own pick, which ALWAYS gets wedged into that guitar's strings when it's in the house. Or when I take the guitars out I put my picks in one of the little "Altoids Smalls" tins, as I'm afraid of them dropping out of my pockets when I handle my keys.... and like that. That's a little over the top, maybe, but i don't lose things.
