Gravity Storm

Has anyone tried these? Interesting that thebridge has A5 magnetics and the eq is nothing like a evo. Does it hold its own or does it sound like an existing model? Sometime I think the endorsements get carried away

Re: Gravity Storm

I've got one in the bridge of an Adrian Smith SDX, along with an area 67 middle and Injector neck. I like it, it is quite middy, but sounds good, not as hot as an evo, but warmer/ less ice picky. I like them better than the Evo&Evo2, probably my 2nd favorite DMZ after the Tone Zone.

Re: Gravity Storm

Ive got the gravity storm set in a Jackson DK2 now. I really like the way it plays. Its definitely not just a rehash of another pickup. If its similar to any its similar to the norton but has better dynamics and more pick attack and less compression.

Re: Gravity Storm

bringing up a zombie thread... here's my joke to make up for it:
Q: What do you call a guitarist who breaks up with his girlfriend?
A: Homeless

I decided to keep my Gravity Storm neck and put it in my epiphone les paul that is kinda bright. I haven't had a chance to crank it. Should I wait to crank it to give a full report? At low volume and low gain it kinda sucks. Muffy, weak, needed my volume knob to be a 10.

Then with my virtual amp, Blackstar IDCORE at high gain it is a raging monster like all those youtube videos.

But here's a dude using it low gain on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9j2DvB4C5s
My copy of the gravity storm is not as crisp as this. Is it just the kind of pickup that requires lots of gain? Or volume helps?

Re: Gravity Storm

I had the full set. I love the neck pickup, probably my favorite Dimarzio neck humbucker.

The bridge sounded great but just seemed to lack too much on output and I had to fight with it a bit. More than I think anyone should. I sold the bridge position pickup on as I just didn't like it in anything I tried.

I paired my gravity storm neck with a DiMarzio super distortion and to me it's the best combination.

Re: Gravity Storm

I have a Gravity Storm neck paired with an Evo2 in my parker nitefly m. I love the GS. I really wish they made a 7 string version of it, actually. It has a fatness on the midrange that is super cool, with a tight single-coil-y thing on the lower registers. it splits amazingly well, and when rolling the volume back some of the single coil attributes also get accentuated, and fatness reduces.

it's very fluid for high gain soloing, like a liquifire. again, highs are fat, lows are tight but snappy.

clean tones are thick but beautiful.

basically, throw out any pre-conceived notions of a ceramic bucker. super unique pickup.

never tried the bridge model...want to.
