I saw the band-The Fixx-last night. As some of you might know, there guitar player-Jamie West Orem-has been noted for haveing one of the best spanky clean tones-One thing leads to another-so I went to check out the band to see what he uses for amps
I got there before the show and noticed he had a Fender Deville and a Marshall Jcm 800. He also had a few footpedals and a furman voltage regulator. from what I could see he used a compressor, tube screamer, and a couple others like volumn pedal and 2 others-couldnt see-but it was all very simple.
he played thru a strat with stacked singles with a floyd rose-no kidding-and also an ernie ball axis guitar with split hums.
He started playing and that huge spanky clean tone came out right away thru the Fender Delux amp and the fender strat. People around me where going "holy hell listen to how good that sounds"
He also ran some of his bright clean tones thru the Marshall! he compressed his signal from the strat, pushed up the mid on his marshall head, and played some spunky cleans-one thing leads to another-I never would have believed it had I not seen it that he could get that marshall to sound that way. of course he used it for distortion as well.
As for the guitars, the strat with the floyd and stacked singles sounded good and spanky clean but the Ernie Ball Axis sounded stronger and louder and better just not quite as straty but he used it on songs like "Saved by Zero" and it did sound killer. He had the neck hum split of course.
If this band comes to your area I suggest you check them out. Not only for all the cool hits but the tones Jamie West Orem is getting sound amazing.
