Great Satriani Clip

I don't want to stir up the whole "gear vs. hands" debate, I just thought this is pretty amazing to see: Satriani ripping it with some solid-state practice amp.:eyecrazy:

Re: Great Satriani Clip

He is playing one of the JS1s, the one with the drawings all over it; the amp is an Ibanez ToneBlaster! He ran his DS1 and DD3 into it then close mic'd it. I was really surprised the tone was so good so I went to the local shop and put a DS1 thru a TB25 - and bought it! A very nice combo for bedroom/tiny gigs - clean is pretty good and the amp likes the DS1. Instant clean/crunch rig!

Plus it is Joe - 'nuff said

Grrr..hate that i cannot watch youtube @ work.

I will say though, that the more gear I go through the more I realize gear has less of an impact on tone than we think. Its important, but you really start getting to a point where it's just minor variation, especially when things are being recorded.

+1

Whenever I start thinking too much about pickups, tubes, etc. it helps me to see someone like Joe Pass, Jeff Beck, or Satriani. I'm sure thousands of people have a DS-1 and transistor practice amp, yet few pull that kind of sound out of it.
