Great Tones Last Night From My Marshall!

Used my 50 watt Marshall last night and that Boss CE-20 Chorus pedal with my Fender PJ in stereo...Got great tone and the extra stereo dimension I heard on stage was very inspiring and filled the stage tones out...

I think the GT 12AX7M tube really helps make my Marshall sound better and I'm very happy with these tubes so far....

I only have some very dark photos of last night's gig,but my Marshall into my Vox V30 2x12 cab sounded great last night!

Re: Great Tones Last Night From My Marshall!

I had the GT 12ax7Ms in my JCM 900. They made all kinds of noise when the spring loaded metal retainer covers were on. Other tubes worked fine with the retainer covers on. It worked out great, though. In the course of trouble shooting I found that I much preferred 12au7s; they took the fizz out of the 900.

Any photos coming? That sounds like a cool looking rig!:smokin:

This thread is worthless without soundclips :D

Can't you just hear my Marshall? Just imagine it....:laugh2:

I'm just not setup for clips...I have a Tascam 488 cassette tracker and it's not setup to quickly get stuff onto my computer, plus I just don't have the time for it these days! :smack:

Brother John, glad you are diggin' the tubes!!

Best sounding currently made tube in my opinion for a Marshall,as I've tryed most of what's available to us today...

Better than the JJ 803 tube..

Re: Great Tones Last Night From My Marshall!

I've settled on what I like most for my Matchless Chieftain 2-12 combo. JJ E34L's, and JJ pre's for everything but the 1st and 2nd pre tubes are the GT12AX7M's.

I really think they're a nice gainy and fat tube for non master volume amps. I've forgotten that the Chieftain actually has a master volume, because it sounds like a NMV. I keep the master high and bring up the gain till it breaks up, so essentially it's the same. The GT'M's really push the preamp on those types of amps nicely. On highgain amps, I still think the GT12AX7C has the edge.

Yea, the NMV Marshalls sound much nicer. I had to do a lot of messing around w/tubes and speaker to get the 900 to an acceptable sound. It was cheap, but I would purchase a different model if I did it over!:sigh:

I just retubed my Marshall JCM DSL50 today with JJ E34L's and pre's I bought from Eurotubes, set the bias at about 40, and am running it through a 2x12 cab with V30's. It had stock Marshall pre's and Svetlana 34's before, but there's no comparison to the new JJ's. I am really impressed with the headroom, and am also able to get that break-up at the right gain setting like Joe spoke of. The tone is excellent and very classic-sounding.

I'm running the GT EL34L tubes(Might be the same as the JJs) at 40 milliamps per tube also and into either my V30 Marshall 4x12 or my Vox V30 4x12....Getting great results! My amp I think has broken in and warmed up very nicely and so have the V30 speakers in my Vox cab that replaced the Neo-Dogs that I didn't care for!
