Re: Greenbacks discussion
It all depends if your talking open backed or closed back. It's a totally different speaker in different cabs.
In a closed back cab, particularly a Marshall 4x12, they stay tight, with a nice bass. They have more crunch than the Vintage 30 , and they also cut through when you step on a boost.
I think the GB works nicely for crunchy power chord rock-n-roll, with an additional strong lead voice for solos. They work nicely with cranked 50 watt Master Volume amps, such as the Marshall 2204 in a 4x12, for like Bad Company. When I envision the GB voicing I think Bad Company. If your looking for that late 60's full stack plexi vibe, they also work great under a 1959 in two cabs. Other speakers don't get that real cranked plexi vibe as well.
I don't really like the GB as well as other speakers in Blues Breaker combos. They are nice and warm, but can also be a bit inarticulate at high volume in that type of application. A BB really needs an alnico IMO. In a low power open back application, such as an 18 watt or something, they can give a woody old timey blues voicing, at studio levels.
