Gretsch baritone pickup replacement recommendation

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like mini-hum size pickups, but need to confirm exactly what the dimensions are. I'd think a P90-size Super Distortion is the only 'metal' sounding pickup that might fit.

Yeah, it is hard to get a sense of the size of those...can you measure them out?

I believe that route in the guitar is for filter Tron size pickups. They just use the route for the filter Tron size and that's why the sides of the pickup have the baseplate looking sides to take up the room. I have one of these too and I left the stock pickups in but I'm not playing metal. I don't think they sound bad at all.

Can I just drop a regular sized pickup in there?

I came across this TGP thread while I was looking at Gretsch stuff, deals with the same issue.

It looks like you can get a full sized humbucker in there, but you'd have to fill and drill the mounting holes and it won't look super awesome. You could maybe put a ring around just the bridge pickup, depending on where its own mounting holes line up with the cavity, without doing too much work. You'd have to rout the pickguard to accomodate a ring around the neck pickup.
