ground wire to bridge studs?

I'm putting a guitar together with livewire humbuckers. A book I bought recomends running a small ground wire to the bridge studs. But the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram doesn't show the connection. Is this really required, does it just porduce a different sound, or is my author a wack job?

It will help reduce noise in your guitar, possibly by a lot when you aren't touching the strings. It won't change your tone at all and IMO is definately worth doing.
