gt6l6b/sovtek 6l6wxt

Looking for Real Life
well i have the wxt's in my bassman, used to have the same kind in my hotrod, but since i put thr GT's in the hotrod it's getting better tone, so i wanna try them in my bassman

however, the bassman is fixed bias, so...is this a safe swap?

Re: gt6l6b/sovtek 6l6wxt

Maybe... Maybe not. It hinges on if the GT's are in the right bias range for Bassman its fine to do the swap. Really the only way to know for show would be to measure the current. I would be willing to bet that for them to work optimally in the bassman it will need a trip to a tech to be biased. Side note I've never been a fan of the WXT's so going to a nicer 6l6 would probably yield a better tone.

Re: gt6l6b/sovtek 6l6wxt

It is something best to have a tech do. To do it you need a way to measure the voltage and a soldering iron. But its also the best way to make sure your amp will run the best. If you have the knowledge and the tools its not a ton of work.

well, this is all the info i could get

GT-6L6-R (B) Duet
Russian made, same as the 5881 you are using now, but when these are matched in our system they are improved. These are a very sturdy and reliable tube. Red = GT 8-10 rating

The Sovtek 5881WXT is the same as the 5881 but with a full size base for easy installation in vintage amp designs.

The Sovtek 5881 delivers a warm, round tone that "sweetens" any vintage or modern guitar amp design. Chances are if an amp uses 6L6-style output tubes, it has Sovtek 5881's in its sockets. Built to rigid military standards, the 5881 will tolerate higher voltages than any other 6L6. In fact, they're frequently used as replacements for the old 7027 model in vintage Ampegs. Extremely consistent from piece to piece, The Sovtek 5881 is the most reliable current production 6L6 available. Used by Marshall, Soldano, Solo, and others.
The Sovtek 5881 has a heater voltage of 6.3 volts at 0.88 amperes. Maximum plate voltage is 250 volts while maximum plate current is 73 mA. The 5881 has a Transconductance rating of 6000 micromhos and a maximum output power of 5.8 watts.

sorry for the persistance but i was really hoping it'd be a safe swap
