Guess who I sold my ENGL to?

I listed my ENGL E920 power amp on eBay a couple days ago. I had one person bid and then contacted me about local pick up. I told him local pickup is welcome and actually preferred due to the weight & tubes. I also told the guy, I would end the auction early if he showed up with cash and do a non-eBay deal (eliminate fees). He called me right away asking for directions from a rehearsal studio in downtown L.A. Anyway, he shows up and everything goes smoothly. I told him, "Sorry, but I have to ask: Are you the Chris Poland from..." and he cuts in, "Yea, that's me." We talked about his current band and the music industry. It ended up being a really cool time and I sold some gear. Doesn't get much better than that.

Nice! Very cool story.

And it's always fun to see rockers and metalheads years (and LOTS of hair) later. He reminds me a bit of Adam Clayton in looks now. Love that gold top Yamaha.

Cool story!

I've talked to him over the phone before. Very nice, professional guy and a absolute monster player.

It looks like his new band is Ohmphrey.

From Wikipedia:
"In 2009, Poland formed OHMPHREY, a side-project with Robby Pagliari of OHM, and Jake Cinninger, Kris Myers, and Joel Cummins of progressive rock band Umphrey's McGee."

Exactly! He invited me to their next gig. I might just have to go and see how good the ENGL really can sound, especially with the Bogner Fish preamp.

haha! I didn't get the reaction I wanted from my wife, so I had to tell someone who'd appreciate it. A part of me wanted to jump online last night and post, but I refrained.

Re: Guess who I sold my ENGL to?

Chris is also the manager of Downtown Rehearsal where our practice space is. I hear he is a cool guy.

Re: Guess who I sold my ENGL to?

Yea, he's definitely a cool guy. He just called and left a voicemail thanking me again. He said he's loving the amp. He was up until 2:30am this morning playing and he still had to get up for work. He said it smokes his Marshall. How many times have you had someone call the next day to thank you again for selling your gear? For me, this was a first.
