Guitar Amp, Bass Cab?

Does anyone know if it's possible to plug a guitar amp into a bass cab and still have it sound fairly awesome on a mildly-distorted sound? (think Jimmy Page/Joe Perryish distortion)

I don't know this from experience, but given the wattage differences between guitar amps and bass amps, logically you may have a problem pushing the speakers in a bass cab with a guitar amp, especially if under 100w. And I have no idea about bass cab/speaker impedances. I could very well be wrong too, but that's my thought. -Rod-

Re: Guitar Amp, Bass Cab?

When I played primarily piggyback-type amps instead of combos, that was almost always what I did. I had four cabs in the main rotation, and all of them were designed for bass. One was an Ampeg B25B 2x15 cab, heavy as hell. The other was an Ampeg B42X 4x12 with dual tweeters. (Same size cab as the B25B, just different internals.) Then a bit later, there was a sale on Ampeg SVT Classic cabs, so I got a matched 1x15 and a 2x10, which I could play separately or together. I got those so it would be easier to haul the cabs around. The amps I played through those cabs were an Ampeg V4, an Ampeg Reverberocket R50 Head, or my Mesa F50 head.

I also had the proper 4x12 guitar cabs for the R50 and the V4, but I always thought the other ones sounded better.

It's possible but I wouldn't buy without trying the exact guitar amp
cab combination that you were thinking of. For a short time I used an ampeg isovent cab with my guitar. It sounded so so good enough for the college parties I played at the time.

I use a lot of vintage bass cabs, an old Acoustic 2/15 was massive and huge, a Musicman with a 1/18 EV in it is great, also the mid 70s PV cabs sound great. I will try any and every combo, let your ears tell you what works...
