Guitar center limited edition guitars

I'm talking about the Strats, Tele's, LP's, etc. that are made as promotional guitars just for guitar center. Anyone know if these guitars hold any value? I've been seeing a LP Studio at the guitar center I go to, and they are only making 200 of them. Here's a link of what it looks like, it's the blue one:

It plays nice, looks nice, just wish the price was nicer, $1300 is too much!!! :yell:

Re: Guitar center limited edition guitars

I don't think they would pick up value.

Guitar Center isn't really that amazing of store. All it really is, is a department store, or super market of the guitar industry.

Also they do too many of these promotions.

Re: Guitar center limited edition guitars

it aint really THAT expencive... but i doubt it will increase or even hold it's value

Re: Guitar center limited edition guitars

In my experience these guitars are commissioned by a store (Guitar Center) to be made by Gibson and are made at a special price for them - these are then sold as a limited edition but they are anything but limited edition models and do not hold/increase their value. You would be far better off getting the guitar that you want and trying out a number of them.

Re: Guitar center limited edition guitars

They hold only as much value as the instrument itself is worth.

It's kinda like their "biggest sale ever!!!!" ............every single Fri, Sat, & Sun.

The guitar companies do those 'special editions' for all their best retailers.
The ones that have the most mojo are the ones by Norman's Rare Guitars, Make'n'Music, Guitar Hangar, or other vintage/boutique stores.

Yes, they are always having the "THIS SALE ONLY HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR" sale every month it seems. :laugh2:
I really like that color though. I wonder if Gibson will start making more with that color if these go over well.

Re: Guitar center limited edition guitars

But I could really go for a Gold Top LP Classic ... sans money of course

Every month? That's an understatement! I hear one every other time I turn on the radio in my car. I change the channel! It's all bullsh*t.

Yeah, it pretty much is. As a former employee I can tell you that alot of those prices you hear on the radio are not even "sale prices". You can get those prices any day of the week. Those ads are all hype.

The only days "store cost" changes is on the BIG sale days, memorial day, Anniversary Sale days, etc. There are only three days I think that they accually lower store cost. Any other day it just depends on how well you can talk the guy down.

I bought one of the black/ brushed chrome studios. Gibson will not sell any of the brushed chrome hardware as replacement or otherwise. Only if you have warranty issues. I paid $954 out the door. I then traded it in on a 1994 goldtop classic. I still have it in layaway but am wondering if I should get it out or get something else??

Re: Guitar center limited edition guitars

I dunno if it has any special value but has anyone else seen the guitar center only schecter with the strippers as the inlays? It's pretty sweet, but none of the ones I played sounded very good.

I am lucky to live not too far away from Guitar Hangar (around an hour away)and it was one of the smallest, but unique and enjoyable stores I've ever seen. Two rooms completely decked out with some of the best gear you can imagine. The guys were VERY cool and nice, so I'd definitely recommend them to anyone! The guys loved my Grosh and insisted I try a few of their Bakers, they are insanely nice guitars
