Guitar cleaner (smoke/film remover)

Re: Guitar cleaner (smoke/film remover)

I have a 1988 American Standard strat that stinks to high heaven of smoke... it's not bad now after many different washings.... it was so dirty i striped the guitar down... soaked the bridge saddles in oil and still had to drill some of the screws out... I very carefully washed the guitar down with a mild soap and water and was extremely careful not to get any water in any open screw holes... Basicly i was just wipeing the guitar down with soft rags and rinsing with water on rags... That helped a fair bit... The smell was still there and 6 months later someone on this site said to try alcohol.... i had some rubbing alcohol and wiped it down with that and it took some more of the smell away! But be careful.... Depending on what finnish is on your guitar you may not be able to do some of the tips... Nitro is different then Ploy...

This stuff works really well on most guitars that are in need of some serious cleaning!

Thanks everbody. Jalin, I'm picking up some of the Virtuoso later today. Based on the testimony on their website, it looks like a good starting point. Thanks.

You can't go wrong with this stuff.:)

Re: Guitar cleaner (smoke/film remover)

Got the Virtuoso yesterday (both the cleaner and the polish). All I can say is..."Wow!". I have to be really impressed to get this excited. Unbelievable. My '81 Flying V that looked like a piece of cherry-smoked meat could easily hang on any showroom wall...and that's just after using the cleaner alone. I haven't even put the polish on yet. FYI, I have always used Gibson polish, cleaner, etc. up until trying the Virtuoso.

I read a testimony on the Viruoso website where someone likened the cleaner to car wax in terms of how you apply and buff it. I agree. I just can't believe how much grime it removed and how the guitar looks. I don't think it has ever looked this good in the 20 years I've owned it. A nice 20th anniversary for my V...thanks for the idea, Jalin. Try it out if you haven't. BTW, I am in no way affiliated with Virtuoso Cleaner & Polish!
