Has anybody read Guitar Effects Pedals: The Practical Handbook by Dave Hunter. If so, what did you think? Was it a good read? Would you recommend this book to others?

Re: Guitar Effects Pedals: The Practical Handbook

Somebody wrote a book about effects pedals?

Why didn't I think of that...

I wonder what it says.

"Turn knob to change effect level"

"Turn other knob to change output level."

"Step on pedal to make it go."

"Connect your pedals by putting a plug in them."

Mmmmph.

I quit.

Re: Guitar Effects Pedals: The Practical Handbook

Haven't read it ... most of the theory of operation stuff comes from a ton of different sources (yes the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook has a small section as well, as most PA/slash electronics/recording handbooks do, reverberation is more detailed in the handbooks dealing with the science of acoustics though). As far as a lot of the electronics side, Craig Anderton's books are still some of the best around ... but it would be nice to see a concise, and well thought out new book come out. I'd been interested in knowing what it's focus is like also.

I've found this online guide to be invaluable Online FX Guide

Re: Guitar Effects Pedals: The Practical Handbook

From reviews I've read, it seems like a great book, but you never know. Some books like this get great reviews, but when you read them they turn out to be complete crap. The book goes over the history of some classic pedals, pedals used by top guitarists, and ways to tweak your pedals.

Here's an Amazon link in case anyone is interested: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...103-6109717-3931805?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Re: Guitar Effects Pedals: The Practical Handbook

I bought this book last weekend and am currently reading my way through it :)

There's alot of info on vintage and modern FX brands, along with what models of FX that company makes.

There's a section of the evolution of guitar FX and also a section explaining what various FX do.

I found the interviews with FX manufacturers to be quite interesting, and theres a few pages on 'Tips, Tricks and Tone'which may help some people with chaining pedals together, and how to get the best from their FX.
