Guitar Models or Model Styles Based On An Artist

Brain-twister here.

Name guitar models or model styles based on an artist. In other words, these artists were so influential and so popular that guitar companies made guitars with either their name on them or cloned their customizing concepts. (EDIT - or alternatively, the artist had a big part in the design)

Does not include "artist signature" models or "custom shop" models... these guitars have to be/were part of regular stock (not special stock).

Here's what I got so far:

1) Gibson Les Paul (Les Paul)
2) Kramer/Charvel/Jackson, etc humbucker+wang bar-equipped "superstrat" (Eddie Van Halen)

and...?

(I'll add em here)

3) Ibanez Gem/Universe (Steve Vai)
4) EBMM/Peavey (EVH)
5) Gretsch Bo Diddley (Bo Diddley)
6) Jackson Rhoads (Randy Rhoads)
7) Gretsch Chet Atkins, Country Gentleman (Chet Atkins)
8) Fender Stratocaster (Bill Carson)
9) Ibanez Fireman (Paul Gilbert)
10) Jackson King V (Robbin Crosby)
11) Jackson VV (Vinnie Vincent)
12) Kramer Nightswan (Vivian Campbell)
13) Red Special clones (Brian May)
14) Jackson Kelly (Bradford Kelly)
15) Music Man Petrucci (John Petrucci)
16) Music Man Steve Morse (Steve Morse)
17) Ovation Glen Campbell (Glen Campbell)

Your question is a bit strangely worded, but obviously the Ibanez JEM and Universe series were developed for Vai, and then made their way in lesser form to the RG lineup, especially the RG770 and 550, and various 7-strings.

The original EBMM and Peavey guitars made for EVH became named something else (without his name) when he left. Very good designs...

Bill Carson and the Stratocaster.

Thread is fail

I see where you were going with this. It was a bad place to go.

I also think while an interesting idea, the Pedal named after an amp will fail also.

Really now...

Why don't you explain to all of us where exactly this was "going", cupcake?

:33:

I think you're posting in the wrong thread again, Chachi. This is about guitars, not pedals and/or amps.

Gretsch Chet Atkins / Country Gentleman (Chet Atkins)

He took a hacksaw to a Tele when Leo asked him for suggestions. Said it needed a tummy cutout.

I'd never heard of Carson until you mentioned (but my memory gets fuzzy at my age - I did read the "Fender: The Inside Story" book).

You're right - did some digging and sho' 'nuff, Leo made the Strat for Carson. Strange that nowadays nobody would guess that history for such a famous guitar.

Adding to the list.

His son is a farmer now that has won prizes for his pumpkins. He comes to NAMM periodically.

Ibanez Fireman - Paul Gilbert.

I understand it's an Iceman flipped over, but it's so much cooler.

I always associate the 54 strat with Buddy Holly, the aged white LP Custom with Ronson and Rhoads, and a sunburst/rosewood beat up strat with SRV. Maroon Explorer with The Edge, as well as black/maple 79 strat. White Gibson pointies belong to the Scorpions, Michael Schenker, and James Hetfield.

Jackson King V - Robbin 'King' Crosby
Jackson VV - Vinnie Vincent
Kramer Nightswan - Vivian Campbell (unlike the other Kramer signatures, Viv's name was nowhere to be found on the guitar, and it was used by several other high-profile guitarists at the time, such as Mark Kendall and Al Pitrelli)
Fender Jag-Stang - Kurt Cobain's unrealised concept

Re: Guitar Models or Model Styles Based On An Artist

well with the king v you're kinda right, kinda as the first real king v sold was the KV1 signature guitar of dave mustaine, before the KV1 the guitar was called the double rhoads as it was a symmetrical version of the rhoads long wings, the first one was ordered by Dave linsk from overkill, that was when Robbin saw the guitar and ordered one too, it was nicknamed as king v for him but was only a custom order guitar until the KV1, Dave's sig that featured shorter wings lrs tuners and korina body wood, then all the other versions appeared.

I guess any replica of Brian May's Old Lady would fall into this category.

Re: Guitar Models or Model Styles Based On An Artist

Ovation Glen Campbell
Jackson Kelly - designed with Bradford Kelly from Aussie metal band Heaven

Music Man have to come in here. The new Valentine. All of the Petrucci Models. Steve Morse. They've always taken this approach to their premier endorsees. Reverend Guitars also have a few - Reeves Gabriels, Billy Corgan, Ron Asheton, Tricky Gomez...
