guitar neck question

okay, so i'm building a guitar(flame maple body, flame maple neck, ebony finger board), and i am just getting to the neck portion of my beast. I was wondering if a neck had to be on a 24 3/4 or 25 1/2" scale...i would like a 28" scale, i'm a bass player and i like the longer neck. would the same 1/17.817 fretting formula work...or am i going to have to just suck it up to a 25 1/2" scale. please help...

Re: guitar neck question

How cool! Assuming you can reach chords, that could be a very usable sound!

The formula is the same, but you will have less knowledgable support as fewer have built 28" scale- Suggest you checkout MIMF, this is right up their alley and nice folks to talk to- But one heads up- Join the site, read the archives (bottom of page after you log on) and don't ask questions until you've read all there is-

There are more pros over there than anywhere else I know so make sure you've referenced everythign they have before you shoot them a note-

Good luck and looking forward to hearing how it goes!

you can build a neck in any scale you want, and yes the rule of 18ths still applies

Here´s an online fret calculator... http://www.buildyourguitar.com/resources/fretcalc/jscrptclc.htm
