[Guitar problem] Amp squeals/whistles only with my Ibanez w/ SH-6

Hey guys maybe you can help with a problem i noticed on my new amp.

I just bought a Laney IRT15H and play it through the Laney 2x12 cab. It's been great, but I noticed something troublesome today. When I play with the volume at or above 4 on the amp, there's a whistling sound that starts when i don't play anything or when i palm mute the strings. It goes away when i have my NS-2 on (though it can still be heard for .5 sec at the end of everything i play) but it will not go away when its off. So i figured it must be a tube thats microphonic or bad or w/e. But thats when I noticed that if i lower (less tone) the tone pot on my guitar the noise goes away completely.

So I decided to try my other guitars. I tried an Epiphone with alinco style PUPs and 0 whistling even w/ volume at 8. I tried my Cort with EMG 81/85 and 0 whistling with volume at 8. I go back to my Ibanez w/ SH-6 and get the whistling. Lower the tone, and the whistling goes away.

Could this be a problem with the PUP? or just the wiring on the tone pot?

Could be that the Distortion is hotter than your other pickups. Try lowering it a bit. Or just lower the tone knob a bit if that works.

How is the SH-6 humbucker mounted into the Ibanez guitar? Is the pickup open bobbin or covered? If the pickup is covered, how has the cover been fastened?

What model Ibanez guitar? Photographs might help.

I had a similar problem with a CUSTOM/CUSTOM that I had installed into the bridge of a Strat, it turned out to be a bad pot & simple fix in my case. I guess it's possible the issue is coming from the pickup but it's been my experience that potentiometers fail much more often than Duncan's? FunkyFingers makes a good point, a little more information might be helpful in diagnosing the issue...

Here is a video of the problem and here are pics of the guitar/PUPS: http://imgur.com/a/HN4iw

I'm considering taking it into the shop to get it repotted but i'd like to know of any posible problems before spending money on something that may not be a fix.

Sounds like too much preamp gain (microphonic feedback), and being too close to the amp. Does this happen if you are not right next to it, or if the gain is turned down a bit?

There appear to be two editions of this question running in different forum rooms.

I think the answers are the same, though.

Get a cord long enough to stand away from your amp 10' to 15'. Turn amp on and play at the volume and gain settings that produces the whistling sound. Now, talk into the pickup and have someone else listen to your amp. If your voice can be heard coming out of the speaker, your pickup is microphonic and should be re-potted.

Simple as that.

When I turn the gain down it goes away. But the noise starts with the drive at 7 and preboost at 7 too. Any lower and i lose the aggressive distortion I want :(
