Re: guitar solo

some great moments there! The tone is too much "reverbed" to sound clean and punchy ,but the ideas are great.
The Shredding is sometimes overdone ,but overall ,you can play great leads IMHO!Cheers!

Hahaha ,man you are already a good player.i would "focus" on my feelings morethan the scales you allready learned forward and backward!Just concentrate on your feelings ,and try to play them.that's he only advice to give a good technical player.Your fingers do allready the job ,so let your soul take the control over them!

Yeah Stuck Mojo is not for everyone ,but the tone is just killer. He (Rich Ward ,a very good player and a great guy) get's this tone froma really easy setup ,and he can ripp evrything with one guitar ,half stack and a wah!He once said to me showing his PATB-1 "I put this PU in every guitar i own. It's "the" sound that i allways wanted ,and i allways play"...That was my first kick to check the PATB series. And he was right. Now i need another flat or brightsounding guitar to put one in!
I am jonesing for some Jackson or some Vigier. The "visual" part is not important.I am after a sound ,and i hope i will get it soon hahah!:headbang:

Re: guitar solo

Really great ideas, I tend to go for very similar structure and phrases, its a rough draft obviously so I am not gonna comment on the structure, but you have great "slow" phrases, I would suggest if you can't come up with a cool fast phrase/lick go for a bend or a quick scale run to take you to another place on the neck for another melodic phrase, I am trying to get away from "ok here I've got to shred because its just asking for it" because sometimes you lose the mood of the previous phrase buy just playing fast what is in the key but does not actually connected to mood/feel wise to the privious phrase ..... I think Uli Roth is great at matching his phrases with fast licks that you can actually remember melody wise .... but I did not think it was "reverby" and I think you've great atmosphere there, just need to clean it up and make everything click.

Re: guitar solo

good stuff and i think you're right about linking ideas in a song. sometimes i get caught up in trying to think of mechanics for a run that the run doesn't match with the music that well. i'm going to try to reduce the amount of thinking i do when playing and try to focus purely on flow. thanks very much guys

That's exectly it, I've just came up with the best two solos I've ever had(not long about 30-40 seconds each, I think .....) and you know what I did, I just looped the part I solo over into my line-in on my Kustom 15watt transistor box, and just jammed man, with out thinking much, just kind of felt the vibe and let rip, the best parts that fit - you could remember right away with out trying because they just FIT!!! then I thought how to tie them together. I think its easier to come up with meaningfull stuff that way, because if you have two parts that really work its much easier to find a tasty lick to tie them together, than to go like: uhmm ... ok, and here I will do this, uhm no, its not enough, how about I pick this note here and add a quick half a step slide with my pinky here ... oh crap, it will take me a while to nail this ... It took me 17 years to figure this out ... moron.

Re: guitar solo

I liked it a lot. Great vibrato technique. It really adds a lot of power to just a single note. If I were to come with any constructive criticism, I'd say slow it down a bit, like the other guys. With your aforementioned vibrato technique, slower, more powerful leads would sound effective. I'm not saying cut the shred, because it's really good, and sounds great, just save it for a more up-tempo track.

Great tone by the way! ;)

it's cool that you picked up on that. i recently changed my vibrato technique because from a down-up motion to an up-down motion because it sounds more natural and less nervous. furthermore, i found out that whether you start your vibrato up or down depends on what direction you're going on the fretboard -naturally. i'm completely self-taught, so these things don't come easy :smack:

Re: guitar solo

Us self-taught guys get by just fine methinks.

When you say 'up-down', what do you mean? Do you achieve vibrato by moving the string from side to side across the fret (like, the motion of your fingers is perpendicular to the string) or do you just hold your finger down and waggle it like BB King (the motion of your finger is parallel to the string)?

Re: guitar solo

i push/pull the string as if i'm doing small bends up and down with equal height. i used to start by pulling the string down then pushing it back up. now i try to start by bending the string up and then down. imagine a continuous wave with a stratight, horizontal line through it. hell i don't even know if that's the right way to do it, but i can mimic most vibratos

Re: guitar solo

No, it's great. One of a few ways to do it. Some guys apply the technique you're using now, but bend and unbend really wide. 'Wide vibrato' I suppose you could call it :p. If you can mimic most vibratos, then I'm sure you already employ this technique, so ignore me completely :)
