Guitar Ugliness

In your opinion, what is the ugliest thing you could have in a guitar? In my opinion, it's the string thru bridge. I know it gives sustain qualities, but i just hate how it looks.

Re: Guitar Ugliness

strat-shape. just looks so boring to me (unless theres a pickguard, then its ok)

Re: Guitar Ugliness

I was kidding. Mostly. Really, ugly has to be in a context. For example, there are lots of different ways to have the strings run through the body, and not all of them are equally attractive. And I can't say that I would never want to see "_______" on a guitar, because maybe I've just never seen it done in a way that I liked.

Gotta keep an open mind, otherwise serendipity will never grace you with its presence.

Re: Guitar Ugliness

the clear topped pickups used on the Zoot Suit SG (and a couple other guitars around.) there's nothing pretty about these

i also really hate chrome topped pickups. not ones with covers, but ones where the coils are actually chrome. i think dimarzio makes some.

The hands of a bad player. Nothing irks me more than watching some guy in Guitar Center playing a Gibson Les Paul butchering Sweet Child of Mine.

Re: Guitar Ugliness

I hate an ugly headstock on a guitar. I also dislike acrylic or see through guitars.

Re: Guitar Ugliness

If we're talking features, then I would have to say that sticky paint finishes are something I can't stand. After getting my ESP LTD which is a natural finish I'll never go back. I'll sand down the neck on new guitars if I have to. Its so restricting.

great point! can't believe i forgot that. i'm really really picky about headstocks. a beautiful guitar with an off looking headstock is just all wrong to me. this is a big problem on acoustics for me. i hate 95% of acoustic headstocks out there

Re: Guitar Ugliness

I'd agree, especially with Dean guitars. They're headstocks are way too oversized.

Strangely I don't dislike Dean's headstocks. I agree that the "V" shaped headstocks could be a bit smaller and would look much better though. I love the headstock on the Dean Hardtail and Soltero. My Hardtail was my favorite guitar....I really regret selling it.

Re: Guitar Ugliness

Iy looks great with a V body. The headstock has to fit the body. One of the only downsides about ESP is that they have don't use a pointed V-type headstock on their V's.
