I have upgrade Vintage VS6 SG copy of Gibson. i took it to the service man and tell him to install new pickups: SH6 Distortion & SH2 Jazz. then remove the old wilkinson tuners and to install some better Gotoh tuners: the guitar now stays in tune for long time. then he suggested me to remove all the cheap electronics and he upgraded with some high quality electronics. i tell him to solder the cavity hole. then he suggest me to install also the push pull split controls on both tone knobs of the guitar. the jazz pickup splitted has now amazing clean tones, and distortion twangy on clean.. jazz splitted is similar to stratocaster, so i think it's good as hell. the only think i dislike, and maybe has some negative effect to distortion pickup at high gain is that he also soldered both pickup holes... i try to play some stuff like sepultura, testament, metallica, megadeth etc.. and it has really clear but killer sound that i like. the distortion itself is also very good for solos. the only thing i have thoughts on, is that both pickup holes are soldered inside.. so what you thing, would be better tone if the holes are not soldered, i already love the sound on high gain settings of my blackstar ht-5, but maybe would be better tone without soldered pickup holes ? anyway, the guitar became metal axe and i really love the clean sounds and distortion that comes from SH6. it has really good thrash metal tone.
