Hey everyone!

This is my first post, please be gentle. Excuse me while I ramble.

I've got a couple mini humbuckers that I'm re-wiring in an older Ibanez Talman. They are the asian Kent Armstrong variety which I went through the work of determining what lead was what. I then found a diagram at StewMac that varified my findings, so I went ahead an dove in, following SD's diagram for wiring 2 humbuckers, 1 volume push/pull for coil split, 1 tone and a 3 way switch.

My results are that the 1st and 3rd positions on the switch are buzzing bad and the center position (using both HBs) sounds fine. I have gone over my work numerous times and it seems that I have done this correctly. I just don't understand why center switch is clean and the others are not. What am I missing? I'm sure its right in front of me, but I can't figure it out.

Just dawned on me, I wired them out of phase so that when I split the coils my middle position is hum canceling. So, if my HB's are out of phase and I go to the center position the pickups are now hum bucking, thats to say that combining all 4 coils is creating a noise free signal, which makes sense. So where is that noise coming from? Have I simply wired my pickups wrong?

Thanks a lot! Utilizing all four conductors and doing the coil cut thing is new for me.

Does the buzz change if you push/pull the coils?
